The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents provide professional nursing care to severely mentally ill individuals in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act; identify mental health care needs utilizing professional nursing assessment skills; make comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations of mental health needs including subtle abnormalities and changes in condition; record and report indicative signs and symptoms of mental conditions; develop, implement and manage performance improvement program for Rural Medication Clinics; participate with Rural Clinic nurses and prescribers by collaborating to coordinate medication clinic services and treatment with staffing needs and schedules; monitors caseloads and waitlist to determine needs of each clinic; works with Psych Nurse IV on solutions to identified needs of clinic; performs monthly audits and reports of medication clinic documentation by nurses and prescribers to ensure compliance with Medicaid and Division policies; and monitors electronic medical record for documentation and appropriate billing code and To Do list for completion. Any discrepancies will be reported to supervisor as discovered. The incumbent also monitors documentation of injectable medications for completeness. Documentation to include: correct time, dosage and appropriate route of administration; medication side effects, and determination if medication is effective for prescribed treatment; if necessary, notify appropriate personnel of action taken. Assures clients who qualify for PAP's are processed as identified by central office staff. Psychiatric Nurses must maintain licensing through the Nevada State Board of Nursing and current CPR/First Aide certification at all times.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
