The Position
Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
The Conservation Educator 4 responds directly to media inquiries from local, state, regional, national and international contacts; plans, organizes, coordinates and publicizes Department events to provide information regarding agency services and activities; evaluates advertising and promotional materials for compatibility with the Department's brand; creates informational materials, wildlife laws and program changes; monitors and develops Department content for social media and the Department's website utilizing current industry standards and concepts; coordinates and scripts press releases and public service announcements to promote services offered by the Department; helps develop internal and community relations campaigns to foster community support and a positive agency image; and assists with preparing agency newsletters or brochures, drafting and editing articles, and preparing media backup for important news events/stories. The Western Region Conservation Educator administers the Public Relations/Public Affairs program and other programmatic areas within the Conservation Education Division for the Western Region. The Western Region Conservation Educator will assist the Staff Education Coordinators to oversee the administration of regional programs including Hunter Education, Angler Education, general Wildlife Education and Urban Wildlife Programs.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and three years of professional experience in conservation education which included presenting and evaluating educational programs, developing curricula, writing news releases, developing written materials for publication, providing interviews for print and broadcast media, and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Conservation Educator III in Nevada State service.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Statewide travel is required.
    Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
    Pursuant to NRS 432A.170, positions offered employment in these positions must submit to a State of Nevada/FBI pre-employment background investigation.
The Examination
CONSERVATION EDUCATOR IV
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.
1) Describe your professional public relations experience, including the number of years, providing wildlife outreach to community organizations and other public interest groups.
2) Describe your experience, including the number of years with an outdoor education program to include the following: a) designing the program; B) implementing the program; and c) establishing goals and objectives.
3) Describe your professional experience, including the number of years, communicating and coordinating with other governmental agencies or standards-setting agencies.
4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, interpreting wildlife laws and regulations.
