JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Weights and Measures Inspectors inspect all commercial weighing and measuring devices, enforce applicable regulations, and sample gasoline and diesel fuel for quality in order to protect the economic interests of consumers and merchants in the State.
Additional duties include checking the net content of package goods, price verification, and regulating methods of advertising and sales of commodities. The position will respond to all documented complaints regarding applicable certified devices and advertised pricing. Under close supervision, incumbent receives training in performing all or part of the duties of the Weights & Measures Inspector II. Progression to the II level may occur upon meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the approval of the appointing authority. This position requires extensive travel of more than 50% of the time throughout Southern Nevada and Central Nevada, including overnight stays. A 4 ten-hour shift schedule is possible for this position. **Because of the CDL requirement of this position, Federal Law requires random screening of controlled substances throughout the course of employment.**
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in the inspection, maintenance or installation of mechanical and/or electrical equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Some positions in this series must operate a diesel truck and trailer. Incumbents in those positions must obtain a Nevada Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year of appointment and maintain a current CDL for continuing employment.
