Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Programs & Services for the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, the Administrative Assistant 2 will provide administrative and program support to multiple programs within the department by assisting management in assessing the needs of programs and services; implement department work products and services to ensure identified assignment and goals are accomplished; execute information products, needs analysis statements, and complete surveys; relay information, news articles and other data to the Deputy Director; disseminate information to public officials and other stakeholders as directed. The position will be responsible for screening telephone calls, generating phone calls, teleconferencing and video conferencing as directed; scheduling appointments and manage the daily calendar for the Deputy Director; record and transcribe minutes of various meetings; prepare and disseminate reports and correspondence; respond to complaints and seek constructive resolutions through positive communication; compose, review and edit letters and written materials for dissemination; coordinates meetings, conferences, seminars, workgroup and ceremonies in conjunction with program managers; order and maintain office supplies; serve as the travel coordinator for the Programs & Services staff to include processing travel requests (hotel, airline, and rental car reservations), complete and submit travel reimbursement claims. The selected applicant will be proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point and capable of speaking and communicating in public settings.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
