Rehabilitation Counselors manage a caseload budget; determine eligibility or ineligibility; assess rehabilitation needs; develop individualized plans for employment (IPE); coordinate the delivery of services; and provide counseling and advocacy services for individuals whose mental or physical disability presents a barrier to employment and/or self-sufficiency.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation is recruiting for Rehabilitation Counselor 3 vacancies in Carson City, Reno, Las Vegas and Rural communities. The Rehabilitation Counselor 3 makes eligibility decisions for program services; provides eligible individuals with sufficient counseling and guidance to assist him/her to complete an adequate assessment of vocational needs; develops Individual Plans for Employment (IPE); manages cases in a manner that ensures timely case movement and delivery of services; ensures that accurate case documentation is in case files; ensures case expenditures are appropriate; completes required actions with sufficient written documentation and justification as needed to obtain the required number of employment outcomes; completes all required supervisory courses within required time frames; effectively leads a team and promotes efficient work flow and production; investigates complaints regarding staff and provides mediation to resolve complaints; takes progressive corrective action and monitors improvement; consults and collaborates with management when dealing with significant issues; provides staff with adequate direction, training and instruction; completes staff evaluations in a consistent and timely manner; provides feedback in a productive, consistent and timely manner; provides quality customer service. ***PLEASE READ THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AS THEY HAVE CHANGED FOR THIS POSITION***
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or health, social or other related behavioral science, and two years of journey level experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor which must have included making eligibility, ineligibility and employment outcome determinations by applying federal, state and agency regulations, policies and procedures for a public vocational rehabilitation program; negotiating and resolving conflicts; and performing community outreach public relations activities for an assigned program; OR a Master's degree as described above and one year of experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor II in Nevada State service.
