The Position
Rehabilitation Counselors manage a caseload budget; determine eligibility or ineligibility; assess rehabilitation needs; develop individualized plans for employment (IPE); coordinate the delivery of services; and provide counseling and advocacy services for individuals whose mental or physical disability presents a barrier to employment and/or self-sufficiency.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This recruitment will be used to fill vacancies in DETR's Carson City, Reno, Las Vegas and Rural Rehabilitation offices. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor 2 provides services to our clients to return to employment. This includes gathering intake information and medical documentation to determine eligibility. The counselor may collaborate with medical professionals, training specialists, JobConnect and other vendors to assist with the client in returning to work. These positions will also work closely with high school students with disabilities. ***PLEASE READ THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AS THEY HAVE CHANGED FOR THIS POSITION***

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or health, social or other related behavioral science and one year of professional experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor, or similar occupation, which must have included making eligibility, ineligibility and employment outcome determinations by applying federal, state and agency regulations, policies and procedures for a public vocational rehabilitation or similar program; negotiating and resolving conflicts; and performing community outreach public relations activities for an assigned program; OR two years of experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor I in Nevada State service.; OR an equivalent combination of education at or above a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience as described above.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
