The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE. INTERESTED APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is seeking a Social Services Program Specialist II (SSPSII) to be located in our Carson office under direction of a Social Services Program Specialist III, this position participates as part of the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children central office unit, and as a point of contact and liaison for all state and local child welfare agencies. This position will need to demonstrate the ability to interpret federal and state laws related to the Interstate Compact, and child welfare programs such as foster care and adoption. This position serves as an ICPC liaison between Nevada and all other states; providing both programmatic and technical assistance on placement issues including home studies, education, medical, foster care maintenance payments and financial assistance eligibility. This position will assist in the facilitation of meetings between other State ICPC office, caseworkers and legal staff as requested.
This position is full-time with a regular work schedule that includes a variable work agreement with overtime after 40 hours per week. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS), together in partnership with families, communities and other governmental agencies, provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. DCFS programs include child protective and welfare service delivery in rural Nevada and oversight of urban county-operated child protective and welfare services, children's mental/behavioral health treatment and residential services (outpatient and inpatient acute) in urban Nevada, and statewide juvenile justice services including state-operated youth training centers and youth parole. DCFS is an extremely complex organization with incredibly dedicated and professional staff committed to building strong communities through strengthening families.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing social services to clients or program development and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and one year of professional experience providing medical assistance programs services or healthcare services to clients or program compliance and evaluation which required the application of regulations, laws, policies and procedures in making determinations; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
