Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Under general supervision, incumbents supervise technical engineering employees and perform engineering functions requiring analysis of diverse data and the exercise of judgement impacting daily operations and policy and procedure implementation. Duties result in a product or provide a service or recommendation used by others in making decisions.
This position is located within the Nevada Department of Transportation's (NDOT) Materials Division in Carson City. Under the direction of a Supervisor II the selected candidate will supervise two Engineer Technicians. The selected applicant will be responsible for testing all concrete samples submitted; reviewing all tests completed for accuracy; producing final reports to be sent to submitter of the respective sample; communicating with the Resident Engineer, other NDOT Divisions, concrete suppliers, testing firms, state and federal agencies, equipment vendors, and other organizations within the concrete industry; reviewing material specifications for accuracy and participating in developing changes; participating in AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory(AMRL) and Cement Concrete Reference Lab (CCRL) accreditation programs; and managing the testing and training procedures used within the lab. After appointment, the selected applicant will be required to obtain certification through the American Concrete Institute for field or laboratory concrete testing. This certification will be paid for by the Department.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of subprofessional engineering experience; OR four years of experience at the Engineering Technician II level or above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Employees in this class who are not licensed professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.

Applicants for Supervisor I, Associate Engineer who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying are not required to take the State's written test.

This position requires experience sampling, testing, or working with construction materials such as concrete, steel, asphalt, soils or aggregate. |
