Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
Lake's Crossing Center (LCC), a maximum security forensic/psychiatric hospital is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 3 position. The agency provides forensic mental health services for individuals that are involved in the criminal justice system and who need mental health services in order to proceed with their adjudication. Under general direction of LCC Director of Nursing, the incumbent will provide professional nursing care to mentally ill clients and serve as a first-line supervisor. Duties include: providing work direction, and resolving patient care and staffing issues; assigning and reviewing work of subordinate staff, providing counseling and applying discipline to subordinate staff in assigned work area on the shift. Additionally, the incumbent will participate in a multidisciplinary treatment team, utilize email and other technology as methods of communication for urgent matters, and perform other duties as assigned.
Work schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 2pm to 10:30pm, however hours may vary and include evenings and weekends depending on the needs of the agency. The environment requires a high level of security awareness as well as the physical stamina or ability to deal with maladaptive and aggressive clients.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and three years of professional nursing experience, two of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
