The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Temporary, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Agricultural Inspectors perform sampling and inspection of agricultural products at shipping point inspection facilities, and participate in pest control and noxious weed eradication; check and grade condition of fruits and vegetables, and assist plant pathologists and entomologists in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Seasonal positions located at the Department of Agriculture, Division of Plant Industry, Entomology Section, will be responsible for performing field inspections and surveys for entomology under the supervision of the Agricultural Inspector IV. This position will under-fill the Agricultural Inspector 4 position and may be progressed to the higher level upon supervisor's request and once minimum qualifications of the position have been met.The positions will be located and based in Sparks, NV. Incumbents will be required to travel to agricultural production and rangeland areas across the state of Nevada. This position has a travel requirement of more than 50%. Main duties include placing and collecting traps, preparing and labeling specimens and collection and recording of data electronically using handheld computers and phones. Incumbents may be assigned to assist in other related Plant Industry disease and field surveys as required.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in agricultural sciences or related sciences performing agriculture duties; OR one year of experience as an Agricultural Inspector I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination or education and experience.
Special Notes
Incumbents at the Agriculture Inspector III and IV levels are required to qualify for a federal-State license to issue certificates of quality and condition of agriculture products within three months of appointment.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
50 % Travel requirement.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
Flexible and/or rotating shifts are required.
