The Position
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located within the Construction Division in Carson City. Incumbent is responsible for statewide supervision of the QA inspectors (requiring air or ground transportation) and two sample runners; performing periodic on-site project reviews on all phases of construction projects and generating technical reports; coordinating training of field personnel; assisting in the calibration of asphalt and marination plants; management of the construction crews inventory of survey equipment; and administration of the inertial profiler certification and nuclear density programs. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and four years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff II, Associate Engineer or Supervisor II, Associate Engineer; OR four years of professional engineering experience with two years of experience comparable to the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer.

The Examination
SUPERVISOR 3, ASSOCIATE ENGINEER, CONSTRUCTION ADMIN
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe in detail, including the number of years, your experience as it relates to: a) Inspection of highway construction projects; b) Construction Surveying; c) Nuclear density gauge.
2) Describe your supervisory experience, including the number of years, in an engineering construction environment.
3) Describe your experience, including the number of years, observing and/or performing pavement smoothness measurement to include experience with inertial profiler measurements and/or California profilograph measurements. Please include any experience ensuring equipment is properly calibrated, contractor measurement results are acceptable, and the contractor is following appropriate test method.
4) Describe your experience, including the number of years, revising and administering construction related training to include inspection, materials sampling and testing, and surveying.
5) Describe your experience, including the number of years, preparing technical reports in the following: a) construction field; b) engineering field.
