The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties such as maintaining records and files; composing and editing correspondence; data entry; office management; and budget monitoring.
This position is located within the General Services Division, Carson City for the Nevada Point of Contact Firearms Unit. There are two positions available. One position has a work schedule of Sunday-Thursday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with Friday & Saturday off and the other is Tuesday-Saturday with Sunday & Monday off. The hours are 9:00 AM TO 6:00 PM. THE ABILITY TO WORK ALL STATE HOLIDAYS EXCLUDING NEW YEAR'S DAY, THE 4TH OF JULY, THANKSGIVING DAY AND CHRISTMAS DAY, AND WORKING OVERTIME AS NEEDED FOR CALL VOLUME IS REQUIRED.
The incumbent is responsible for interpreting Federal and State laws to determine eligibility to possess a firearm according to Federal guidelines; correspond with multiple levels of criminal justice agencies to request arrest reports and disposition information and interact with Nevada Federal Firearms Licensed dealers to conduct background investigations on potential firearms transferees; and serve as the Point of Contact for obtaining Nevada disposition information for all states and the FBI. The position requires certification in NCJIS/NCIC within six months of employment and recertification every two years for continued employment. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    The incumbent is required to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
