The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to mentally ill and/or mentally and physically ill or disabled individuals, in an institution or outpatient setting.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This is an Outpatient Nursing full-time position Monday through Friday from 8-5. The specific work schedule is to be determined. Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week. While this position is anticipated to be assigned to Outpatient Services at the Mesquite Behavioral Health Center. The position supports Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS). The mission of the agency is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life. Incumbents actively participate in a multidisciplinary team managing a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying patient health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction. Will also provide crisis intervention and help develop safety plan recommendations for patients. Ensure compliance with CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies. SNAMHS provides an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), yearly accrual of 15 days of annual leave and 15 days of sick leave, paid holidays and no city, county, state or social security tax! Part-time positions accrue leave pro-rated, based on hours worked. SNAMHS provides continual on-going training and education to our staff, including paid release time for attending approved trainings and the availability of on-site CEU's. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
