The Position
Professional Engineer Administrators are responsible for management of an assigned district, function or division in the Department of Transportation.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located in the Nevada Department of Transportation's District 3, in the geographical area of Elko, NV. As District Engineer, incumbent directs, manages, and oversees the administration and operation of District 3 to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures; represents the Department and coordinates activities with local entities, law enforcement agencies, planning commissions, the Bureau of Land Management, and other agencies; and administers all District 3 construction operations and maintenance functions. Duties also include developing plans, financial analysis, and fiscal planning to include preparation and administration of a multi-million-dollar budget; and dealing with controversial and confrontational situations. Incumbent should have a good knowledge of traffic engineering; environmental guidelines; highway construction, maintenance operations, and equipment specifications; transportation planning principles; safety operations; and general occupational health and safety regulations involved in highway construction and maintenance. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) and five years progressively responsible professional engineering experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity; OR one year of experience as an Administrator I, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as a Manager I, P.E., or Manager II, P.E. in Nevada State service; OR licensure and an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Any person registered as a Professional Engineer in another state must become registered as a Professional Engineer in Nevada within six months following the date of appointment and as a continuing condition of employment.
Special Requirements
    Registration as a Professional Engineer is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
