Heat Plant Specialists operate, adjust, monitor, maintain, clean and repair high and/or low pressure boilers and hot water heat generating equipment, auxiliary equipment such as fuel and combustion systems, compressors, pumps, steam lines, steam traps, heat exchangers, water lines, controls, gauges, and emergency power generators.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

This position requires working knowledge of heat distribution equipment and emergency power generators as well as the occupational hazards and safety procedures associated with heat plant systems. Ability to plan, schedule and perform heat plant maintenance and repair according to agency needs, seasonal demands and regulatory requirements; supervise and direct work of inmates, implement approved security measures which include securing the work area from unauthorized inmates and accountability for assign inmates, staff, tools and equipment. Must be able to prepare reports, keep accurate records; maintain inventories, estimate material and labor for repairs, make budget projections; determine annual inventory and maintenance needs relative to boiler operation.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a recognized heat plant apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience as a heat plant specialist; OR one year of experience as a Heat Plant Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years full time equivalent skilled work experience under the supervision of a journey level boiler operator. |
|
Will work directly with inmates. |
|
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |
|
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. |

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
