Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Licensed Practical Nurse II within the Infection Control/Wound Care program for the Nevada State Veterans Home function as a team member providing nursing care to residents on all neighborhoods. This position provides specialized wound and skin care to residents; administers medication and completes therapeutic procedures; participates in the MDS/Care Planning process; and communicates with neighborhood staff, residents, families, visitors and members of the Nevada State Veterans Home treatment teams. In addition, this position will float to any neighborhood to work as a charge or medication nurse; assist the Infection Control/Wound Care Nurse Manager by providing instruction to staff in orientation, administering the ear hygiene program, and assisting with immunizations. This is a 24 hour facility; therefore, applicants may be required to work shift work. Work experience in a skilled nursing facility with wound care is preferred. This position is located in Boulder City, Nevada.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse, one year of which was providing nursing care to inmates in a correctional setting, individuals with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities, or patients in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home).
Must be able to work weekends
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
Intravenous (IV) certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
