The Position
Correctional Nurses provide professional nursing care to patients in a correctional setting.
Serve as a first line supervisor including providing work direction, and resolving patient care and staffing issues; assign and review work, establish work performance standards, evaluate performance, and provide counseling and discipline to subordinate staff in an assigned work area or shift. Coordinate and provide health related training for medical staff; assess training needs; plan, develop, implement and evaluate health related training programs; develop budget and statistical reports as required.
This position is assigned to the Regional Medical Facility and requires the candidate to supervise the Infirmary night shift and function as the "house supervisor' for the Assisted Living Unit (ACU) and Mental Health Unit (MHU. The incumbent is responsible for employee evaluations, staff scheduling and overseeing patient care. The work hours are 6 pm to 6 am and the work days are variable depending on staffing needs.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
License as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience in a correctional or institutional setting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Probationary employees must successfully complete "pre-service" training (PST) provided by the department.
A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, positions are subject to call-back, overtime on short notice, stand-by status, and must work various hours and/or shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Special Requirements
CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in State of Nevada is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
