The Position
Information Technology (IT) Managers are responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the IT activities, in one or more IT specialization areas, of the State, a department, or a division.
The IT Manager III position of the Secretary of State will manage the SOSTek units for System Administration (five IT Professionals), Helpdesk/Desktop support (four IT Technicians) and Database administration (two IT Professionals). The position will supervise and lead staff within these units managing day-to-day activities, ensuring the agency's systems operate consistently and reliably; develop and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans; develop long range strategies for SOSTek operational units consistent with SOSTek's overall strategic plans; and develop and maintain budgets for managed units.
Incumbent will serve as the agency Information Security Officer reviewing all solution development plans, change requests, public records requests and helpdesk tickets ensuring that sensitive data and/or PII is never exposed to the public; recommend security related agency and technology-wide goals such as "Achieve PCI Data Security Standard"; plan for how to achieve approved and prioritized goals; review agency security related practices, policies, standards and procedures; maintain knowledge of information security related industry standards and best practices; and monitor security audits and reports. Respond to information security related alerts and inquiries from EITS and other federal and state agencies as the official agency ISO. Incumbent will serve on the agency Enterprise Architecture Team reviewing project plans and designs, technology related policies, standards and procedures and developing technology related strategic plans.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and seven years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which involved strategic planning, project management, quality assurance, and computer operations, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, or information security. Four years of this experience must have been in a supervisory or project manager capacity; OR one year of experience as an IT Manager II in Nevada State service; OR two years of experience as an IT Professional IV in Information Security in Nevada State service for Information Security positions; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Nevada Information Security Professional (NISP) or CISSP certification must be obtained within 12 months of appointment and maintained as a condition of continued employment.
    International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, Inc (ISC2), Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) is equivalent to three years of experience.
    Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) is equivalent to two years of experience.
    Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), GIAC Security Expert (GSE) is equivalent to two years of experience.
    Other nationally recognized information security certifications may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. The hiring agency will pay for these items.
