The Position
Licensed Practical Nurses provide general or psychiatric practical nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
Licensed Practical Nurse Trainee will under-fill a LPN 2 position. The incumbent will works under close supervision performing the duties of the position, to gain experience and expand knowledge. Under immediate supervision, Licensed Practical Nurse Trainee's contribute to the assessment of patient health status by collecting, reporting and recording objective and subjective data; observe condition or change in inmate's condition; note signs and symptoms of deviation from normal health; and participate in developing written care plans. Incumbents assist in carrying out therapeutic procedures; maintain safety, health and wellbeing of inmates in the therapeutic environment; and assist in physically restraining combative inmates. Under immediate supervision, LPN Trainees may administer medications as prescribed, ensuring correct time, dosage and route of administration; count controlled medications to ensure security; monitor patient for medication side effects/allergic reaction; and observe patient to determine if medication is effective for prescribed treatment and document findings. LPNs provide emergency medical treatments such as CPR and first aid. Incumbents complete accident and incident reports per agency protocol; they prepare and maintain medical treatment rooms, ensuring supplies are available and ready for use; order and stock medical and related supplies. LPNs provide education to patients related to good health habits and answer questions regarding prescribed treatment. They assist patients with activities of daily living and encourage them to perform activities without help as appropriate. Incumbents may assist in coordinating, scheduling, and arranging for outside medical appointments for inmates.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Nevada.
Special Notes
    Probationary employees working for the Department of Corrections must successfully complete 40 hours of "pre-service" training provided by the department.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
