The Position
Transportation Planner/Analysts participate in transportation system analysis, a continuing comprehensive and cooperative planning process, research programs or projects, safety programs and/or related functional areas as mandated by, and within the guidelines of, federal, State and local authorities; monitor, develop and implement State and federal funding and programming/planning requirements and ensure compliance with federal funding requirements.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position is located in Carson City within the Traffic Safety Engineering Division. The incumbent will perform analysis, editing, and computer entry of traffic crash data; track and enter all fatal crashes into the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Fatal Database; research and prepare statistical analysis required for crash data requests from various state, private, and local agencies; develop and produce descriptive statistics, graphs, and tables for publication; assist with data quality reviews; determine spatially accurate crash locations by interpreting crash record data and creating point locations in a geospatial environment. NOTE: This recruitment may be used to underfill a Transportation Planner/Analyst 1 position. Incumbent may progress to the Transportation Planner/Analyst 1 level upon meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the approval of the appointing authority. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, business administration, planning, math, geography, economics, statistics, or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR graduation from high school and four years of experience collecting, compiling, analyzing and reviewing data and developing reports; OR four years of experience as a Transportation Technician II or three years of experience as a Transportation Technician III in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
    Qualifying experience may be substituted for the education required above the high school level on a year for year basis.
