Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located within the Hydraulics Section, in Carson City. Incumbent will work in a training capacity and under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer performing staff engineering work, to include but not limited to: hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analysis; designing river training systems, culverts, energy dissipaters, storm drains, detention/retention basins, erosion control, and water quality facilities; reviewing hydrologic, and hydraulic design and best management practice reports, studies, and plans; preparing and coordinating construction plans and specifications; reviewing technical engineering calculations, reports, plans, and specifications; assisting in the coordination of water quality, erosion control project activities, and consultant design work; assisting with the development and implementation of water related programs, assisting at public hearings, informational meetings, and consultation to legal counsel.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.

Applicants for Staff I, Associate Engineer who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying are not required to take the State's written test.

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
