JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Correctional Officers maintain and supervise offenders in State correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum-Security Prison.
Senior Correctional Officers (SR COs) work under the direct supervision of Correctional Sergeants. Senior Correctional officers will comply with Administrative regulations and Department of Corrections (DOC) procedures for control of inmate activities; assure proper supervision of inmates; ensure safety for staff and inmate population; supervise inmate populations during meals; maintain alertness/awareness of problems with the security of the institution; enforce inmate discipline; supervise inmate work assignments; conduct institutional searched for contraband; know emergency procedures and evacuation plans; counsel inmates concerning attitude and conduct; supervise proper inmate dress code; submit written documentation of any deficiencies; and supervise inmate use of authorized personal and DOC property. SR COs serve as lead worker for subordinate officers and provides on the job training in subordinate officers on duties of assigned areas. ***Applicants from this recruitment will only be considered for promotion to fill positions at the Pioche Conservation Camp. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
One year of journey level experience as a correctional officer in an adult correctional institution which included certification as a peace officer under P.O.S.T. or its equivalent; OR one year of experience as a Correctional Officer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
Applicants must pass a strict annual physical examination in accordance with Nevada State Prisons Standards and to meet requirements of the provisions of the Heart/Lung Bills.
An Associate's Degree in corrections, criminal justice, or a closely related field may be substituted for six months of the required journey level experience.
Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST-Category 3) requirements including the physical agility testing as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
Special Requirements
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
