JOB INFORMATION

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of Health and Human Services within Nevada Early Intervention Services in Las Vegas, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, and friendly co-workers, and is a great place to work. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. This position performs a variety of clerical accounting duties in support of the program. This job includes; Maintaining records and tracking balances for diverse general ledger groups and/or categories; preparing a wide variety of accounts payable and accounts receivable documents; and assigning accounting codes in compliance with complex rules, regulations and procedures. Candidate must be proficient working with excel. NEIS serves over 2000 plus infants and toddlers and this creates significant medical billing activity with new case openings , record retrieval, submission and ongoing treatment services. Experience working with medical billing in a health care or social service setting is preferable.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical accounting experience which must have included duties such as coding documents to distribute funds; preparing accounts payable and accounts receivable documents; using computer spreadsheets to record, track, manipulate and report data; balancing accounts; and identifying and applying established financial recordkeeping procedures; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
