The Position
Buyers are responsible for the procurement of major goods, financing and services required by State agencies and political subdivisions.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
This position is located within the Equipment Division, Sparks. Incumbent will be responsible for the purchase of equipment and vehicles for the department; working with State Purchasing to establish specifications for items on open term contract as well as items to be procured through State Purchasing; purchasing commodities from open term contracts established by State Purchasing; processing the paperwork necessary to receive and facilitate payment for items purchased; establishing check in sheets to insure that the items ordered meet specifications established for that item, and working with State Purchasing to correct discrepancies on items ordered, tracking purchases, and will verify costs and availability. This position will supervise a Buyer III. Women and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration or closely related field and three years of professional experience in buying, specification writing or related professional purchasing responsibilities; OR one year of experience as a Buyer III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires experience with M4.
    This position requires experience with State Purchasing regulations.
