JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Permanent, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Public Safety Dispatchers perform technical communications work in the operation of a district, central, or statewide communications center including but not limited to: providing assistance to law enforcement units in both routine and emergency situations; dispatching enforcement units and other emergency mobile units from a computerized dispatch center; researching various criminal justice records systems and transmitting the required information; placing telephone calls for officials and registered vehicle owners at accident scenes; providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies as requested; maintaining a variety of logs and records; and preparing statistical summaries on center activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.
This position works within the Department of Business and Industry in the Division of Taxicab Authority in the Las Vegas office. This recruitment will be used to under fill a Public Safety Dispatcher 3. Automatic progression may occur upon the supervisor's approval and when minimum qualifications of the higher level have been met. The Dispatcher 2, under limited supervision provides communication and support services to the Taxicab Authority enforcement officers, cab companies, drivers, and the riding public. Inputs and accesses information automated law enforcement systems. Coordinates dispatching of cooperating agencies, receiving and transmitting radio calls. Inputs and retrieves computer data quickly. Types letters, forms and reports on computer keyboards. Processes requests for service. Answers questions and provides information to the public and cab drivers over the telephone. Makes entries into automated record files. Maintains accurate, up-to-date files and logs. Relates courteously and effectively to those contacted in the course of work. Prepares reports as required. Uses good judgment in making decisions, in emergency and routine situations. Performs other duties as required. Public safety dispatchers work rotating shift assignments including nights, weekends and holidays, and mandatory over-time. Handle a variety of information requests, speak clearly and distinctly using correct English. Knowledge of public relations principles and practices; and the ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Two years experience in law enforcement communications or dispatch work; OR one year as a Public Safety Dispatcher I in Nevada State service.
Special Notes
Applicants must pass the NCIC certification examination within six months of appointment and every two years thereafter as a condition of continuing employment.

Positions require work on evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
