The Position
Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
This position in the Habitat Division provides guidance and direction to the Regional Habitat Supervisors and their staff in the technical guidance program of the Agency. The Technical Guidance program involves development of wildlife inputs into land-use planning at federal, state, county and local levels. This position provides primary contact and coordination with federal land management agencies, state resource agencies and local agencies as needed. In managing the Technical Guidance program the position is responsible for securing funding through federal grants, review and approval of external communications and coordination with other Divisions for technical accuracy. The position also has involvement in habitat restoration and enhancement programs and management of fish and wildlife mitigation fund programs.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

The Examination
WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST (01.712) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Do you have a Master of Sciences degree from an accredited college or university in Wildlife Management, Biology or related field.
2) Describe your experience developing and administering program plans and procedures.
3) Describe your experience drafting Commission level policy statements.
4) Describe your experience conducting training seminars as it relates to 1) wildlife management, 2) statistical analysis and techniques 3) management applications 4) planning and coordinating instructors.
5) Describe your experience compiling annual and quarterly reports for presentation to 1) Agency 2) Legislative committees.
6) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining federal grants in the following areas: 1) writing project agreements and grants 2) working with grant administrators 3) monitoring cost accounting system and reports.
7) Describe your experience developing databases.
8) Describe your experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
9) Describe your experience developing and administering contracts.
10) Describe your experience developing and conducting program evaluations.
