The Position
Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position is located within the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) of the Department of Health and Human Services - Desert Regional Center (DRC), and will be located in Las Vegas, NV. ADSD provides an atmosphere of innovative thinking, teamwork, friendly co-workers, and promotes a positive work environment. The mission of the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) is to provide leadership and advocacy in the planning, development and delivery of a high quality, comprehensive support service system across the lifespan to allow all of Nevada's elders, children and adults with disabilities or special health care needs, to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives to the greatest extent possible. This recruitment is for an Accountant Technician III position located at Desert Regional Center (DRC) in Las Vegas. The selected candidate must be a team player and provide a high level of professional support requiring initiative, experience and skills to troubleshoot, problem-solve and provide proactive solutions as needed. This position will support the business office in its responsibilities to manage the agencies financial resources in supporting individuals who qualify for DRC services. This position supervises the accounts payable section which processes payments for services and supplies for the agency including general operating expenses, supplies, travel, equipment, facility maintenance, utilities, training and contracted services. This position also performs numerous budget monitoring and reporting functions and is involved in the budget building process. QuickBooks and Excel spreadsheet experience preferred.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and 3 college credits in intermediate accounting. Additionally required is four years of progressively responsible financial records maintenance experience which includes duties such as designing, implementing and interpreting narrative and data reports; applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information; preparing entries to accounts; analyzing assets and liabilities and preparing balance sheets; auditing contracts, vouchers and other documents and preparing summary transaction reports; implementing accounting control procedures; and overseeing the work of other accounting staff; OR one year of experience as an Accountant Technician II in Nevada State service which includes 3 college credits in intermediate accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting and 3 college credits in intermediate accounting.
