The Position
Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is located in the Construction Division, Carson City. Incumbent performs engineering work to provide assistance with the Division's Consultant, Quality Assurance, Administration and Constructability Programs. The Consultant Program functions include reviewing and identifying construction program areas, recommending scope and generating agreements, technical review of deliverables and invoices for consultants. The Quality Assurance functions include review of contract documents to ensure conformance and compliance with Federal and State requirements, review and interpret test results for compliance with project specifications, and perform quality assurance inspections on transportation projects. The Administration functions include assistance with the administration and implementation of the Department's Partnering and Dispute Resolution programs, perform technical review and process contractor's payments and contract modifications, and prepare final contract reports. The Constructability functions include review of project plans and specifications to ensure they are biddable and buildable, utilize scheduling software to establish working days and determine construction durations for construction projects. The purpose of this position is to perform a broad range of engineering work- to provide assistance throughout the Division in a variety of program areas as necessary; work duties may fluctuate within each of the program areas. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field; OR two years of journey level technical experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities.
    Applicants for Staff I, Associate Engineer who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering examination given by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying are not required to take the State's written test.
Special Requirements
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
