JOB INFORMATION
Work Type: Seasonal, full time vacancies as they may occur
in this geographical location.
Conservation Aids assist professional staff in a variety of projects involving the conservation and preservation
of the State's natural resources.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is a seasonal position that will work full-time for six months. The candidate in the position will be working with the Wildlife Veterinarian and will be tasked with the following responsibilities: Assistance with wildlife captures, including sample collection and, packing, cleanup and restocking of equipment and supplies; Conducting lab work which will include sample processing and preparation of the samples for shipment and archiving during and after the capture event; Data recording and entry into an on-line or Access wildlife health database; Creation of spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel and maps in GIS; Assistance to field staff as needed for sample collection; Other duties as assigned.
This position will be driving a truck and traveling in winter conditions throughout the State. Candidate must be able to work in cold and hot temperatures and lift 40 pounds. Experience with Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, and GIS programming. Familiarity with sample collection and handling (lab-work) as well as with basic biosecurity practices.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school and one year of experience in resource
conservation projects or wildlife management projects such as assisting with creel census, surveys, identifying fish and wildlife species, vegetation management or similar work OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR six months of experience as a Conservation Aid II in Nevada State service.
