Conservation Educators plan, organize, implement and evaluate educational programs designed to teach hunter and boating safety, environmental concepts and other wildlife related areas to the public, and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The primary function of this position is wildlife education, the volunteer program, hunter education and angler education program. In wildlife education, the employee puts together and implements wildlife educational programs for schools and civic groups. The volunteer coordinator develops both projects and volunteers to implement them. In the hunter education program, staff would help recruit and train instructors, schedule classes and complete paperwork associated with classes. In the angler education program they would recruit and train teachers for trout in the classroom, help with recruiting and training angler education volunteer instructors, schedule and help teach classes and clinics. There is also a small portion of time dedicated to helping promote these programs by writing press releases, shooting video and taking pictures and working with local media. This single position will be recruiting for Conservation Educator I, II, & III levels, so applicants are encouraged to apply at the level that best meets their education and experience.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in education, journalism, communications, outdoor recreation/leadership/education, wildlife management, biology or related field and one year of professional experience in conservation education which included presenting educational programs, preparing educational plans, writing news releases, developing written materials for publication, and/or preparing and presenting radio and television broadcasts; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR one year of experience as a Conservation
Educator I in Nevada State service. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |

Statewide travel is required. |

Occasional nights and/or weekends may be required. |

Pursuant to NRS 432A.170, positions offered employment in these positions must submit to a State of Nevada/FBI pre-employment background investigation. |
