The Position
Community Based Instructors conduct a variety of outreach educational programs to individuals and/or groups of people in a variety of community settings, which may include schools, civic and senior centers, camps and other meeting facilities.
--The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, Washoe County is recruiting for a full-time Community Based Instructor 3 located in Reno, Nevada. Primary responsibility is to conduct the day-to-day development and delivery for the 'Grow Yourself Healthy' and 'Small Steps 4 Big Changes' nutrition education programs at various community locations. Duties include coordinating, scheduling, preparing and delivering educational lessons; purchasing and maintaining supplies; data collection; and analysis and report preparation in compliance with grant requirements. The position keeps extensive confidential grant required records such as data collection, attendance, enrollment, lessons presented, nutritional snacks served and supplies purchased. Additional responsibilities include working collaboratively with diverse audiences such as school teachers and staff, food service administration, and students; occasionally offer conflict resolution to children and families. Upon hire, Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) ethics training certification is required per the UNR Institutional Review Board as well as successful completion of Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition Training.
--The work schedule is a variable 40 hour work-week, determined by the needs of the programs; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of relevant work experience in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, community development, health and nutrition, human and family development, and natural resources in urban and rural areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

    This position requires experience instructing school age youth in a community or school setting.
    This position requires experience assisting in coordinating, scheduling, preparing and delivering a program.
    This position requires having intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
    This position requires experience collecting, organizing and reporting data.
    This position requires having a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Candidates must be able to provide own reliable transportation to various locations to include hauling supplies and materials.
