Conservation Staff Specialists assist in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures related to areas such as resource management, safety and training, fire management and policy management pertinent to the assigned area of natural resource management, preservation, conservation and protection.
The Nevada DIVISION OF FORESTRY is recruiting for an Urban and Community Forester in Carson City or Las Vegas, Nevada. You must indicate in your profile which geographical locations you will be willing to accept employment in.
The position is responsible for program development, implementation and compliance with national program goals and objectives; develops and manages budgets for federal grants; submits annual reports of program accomplishments; provides oversight and coordination for the Urban & Community Forestry (U&CF) staff statewide; awards subgrants for special projects and oversees project implementation and reimbursements; provides technical assistance to communities on urban forestry program development and management; promotes U&CF through public appearances and other outlets; and develops educational and outreach materials. *** THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE BEFORE THE POSTED CLOSE DATE BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, ecology, natural resource management, forestry, parks management, fire management or related field and three years of journey level professional experience in a relevant resource management field that included assisting in developing, formulating, and coordinating programs, policies and procedures; coordinating special grant programs and/or contracts; and/or coordinating training programs; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
The Examination
CONSERVATION STAFF SPECIALIST II - Urban & Community Forester
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

1) Indicate the level of college degree you have with the following (NOTE: Transcripts MUST be attached to your application at time of submittal):
a) College/University degree in Urban Forestry or Natural Resources degree with a minor in Urban Forestry; or
b) College/Univesity degree in Forestry, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Parks and Recreation, or related field.
2) List official Urban Forestry related certifications or specialized training from college/university in Urban Forestry/Arboriculture. NOTE: Certifications or documention of completed specialized training MUST be attached to your application at time of submittal.
3) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining grants in the following areas:
a) writing project agreements and grants;
b) monitoring cost account system and budget reports;
c) writing accomplishment reports.
4) Describe your experience working with the following:
a) Microsoft Excel;
b) Microsoft Access;
c) other software programs.
5) Describe your experience:
a) writing and reviewing technical reports;
b) writing education material for non-professionals
