The Position
Under immediate supervision, incumbents perform duties at the sub-journey level while receiving training for advancement to an entry-level professional class. This class may be used for entry into Loan Officer, State Land Agent, Personnel Analyst, Training Officer, Economist, Transportation Planner/Analyst and other professional series in any department of State government.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
This position works within the Department of Agriculture in the Sparks location. This is an under-fill for the Social Services Programs Specialist I position and will be progressed to the grade 33 level upon meeting the minimum qualifications for that position, with satisfactory performance and the approval of the appointing authority. This position, in a trainee capacity, works under the direct supervision of the Social Services Program Specialist III to provide food distribution and nutrition education to eligible clients in the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). The incumbent is required to travel out to twelve (12) reservations in rural Nevada and conducts client eligibility determinations, which includes interpretation, explanation and application of federal program regulations in processing applications. Provides food distribution and nutrition education to clients; program inventory management, including ordering product and reporting usage each month through the federal reporting system. This position requires travel a minimum of 50% of the time to reservations in rural Nevada to provide food distribution and nutrition education services. Preferred candidate will be a Registered Dietician or have Food Nutrition Certification or a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition or directly related field and experience in school or community based organization.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field; OR two years of journey level technical or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained.
Special Notes
    The ability to travel at least 50% of the time is required.

    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.

The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
