The Position
Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position works within the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs' Museums and History Division and is located in Carson City, NV. The Maintenance Repair Specialist will work in the Nevada State Museum as well as three off-site facilities. Most buildings house sensitive collections requiring unique environmental controls, cleaning, and security. The incumbent performs skilled plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting, and mechanical work as well as maintaining facilities, furnishings, equipment, and grounds. This position is also tasked with estimating supply costs, supply orders, and scheduling projects. Additional duties include installing and removing furnishings and equipment; assist in the repair, maintenance, and construction of exhibits; trash removal; landscape maintenance; snow removal; serves on the on-call list and responds to security alarms and problems twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week as needed; ensures the safety and security of facilities, furnishings, equipment, grounds, collections, personnel, and public; HVAC maintenance and other duties as assigned. The standard shift is Monday through Friday. However, working some holidays and otherwise unscheduled days may be required for special events or due to unforeseen maintenance or repair emergencies as they occur. This position has a 25% travel requirement.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    This position requires an applicant be at least 18 years of age upon application. If selected, proof of being at least 18 years of age will be required.
    Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.
    This position is subject to standby and call back status.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    This position may require flexible/rotating shifts.
    This position may require work on nights/weekends/holidays.
