The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The position is located in Carson City, NV. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, management and evaluation of the medical coverage policies and procedures for physicians (MD/DO). nurse practitioners (APRN), physician assistants (PA), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), certified nurse midwives (CRNM), chiropractors, podiatrists, Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT). aka Healthy Kids, and the supervision of the following programs: community paramedicine, family planning, laboratory services, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) and Rural Health Clinics (RHC), audiology, ocular, and radiology /diagnostic. The incumbent will be required to research/ analyze federal and state regulations and other best practices. The incumbent will be required to work with contractors, providers and other stakeholders to perform education and outreach on policies and procedures, along with performing complex analysis and providing recommendations on both financial and clinical trends. The position is required to manage tasks in an independent manner. A background in medical coding and billing is preferable.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    This position requires 25% travel statewide.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
