Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
This position will handle incoming inquiries from the general public or official agencies regarding inmates/parolees; look up data in the Nevada Offender Tracking and Information System (NOTIS); open, date stamp and distribute incoming mail daily and sort and organize daily outgoing mail for pick up from State mail, UPS, Fed Ex, and USPS; request inmate files from records department for responses to letters and telephone calls for Commissioners as needed; file documentation and distribute files to appropriate person; compare prison progress reports to the monthly eligibility list; resolve issues regarding late or missing reports with the appropriate institution; and print parole orders.
This position will act as back-up for attending and recording parole hearings in the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners Carson City office; setup and test recording equipment prior to hearings; attend and record parole violation hearings at the prison institutions; and enter information and case notes into the Nevada Offender Tracking Information System (NOTIS).

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of clerical experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records, answering telephones, and reviewing forms, documents and other written materials; OR six months of experience as an Administrative Aid in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
