Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
This position reports to the Student Affairs Maintenance department. The Student Affairs facilities include the residence halls, student union, student recreation and wellness center, bookstore and dining facilities. Incumbent will supply skilled heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration support; troubleshoot and/or replace equipment or components to HVAC and refrigeration equipment; apply knowledge of HVAC service practices and procedures; use and read equipment drawings, refrigerant recovery equipment and other equipment needed to accomplish jobs; respond to service calls, reports of water or gas leaks or equipment malfunction; ensure systems are properly running even after an outside contractor has completed work; apply technical assistance, monitoring job progress to ensure compliance with standards, codes and frames; initiate work orders for any non-scheduled or emergency repair; perform system maintenance on hot water boilers, fuel and combustion systems, forced air furnaces, radiant heaters, etc.; diagnose malfunctions of equipment. Will be able to program and schedule automated controls on line with the use of a computer. Assist with the upkeep of building maintenance by assisting other skilled trades. This job requires general working knowledge of maintenance in areas including plumbing, carpentry and electrical. The incumbent will be expected to work both independently and in a team. The hours for this position are Monday - Friday from 7:30AM - 4:00PM. Additionally, this position will have on-call responsibilities and will require mandatory overtime. Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |

Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years of skilled work in a trade under the supervision of a journey level trades worker. |

This position requires the incumbent to be EPA certified to recover refrigerant and recharge equipment. |

Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. |

Must be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors. Incumbent will be working on complex electrical control systems where differentiation between wire coloring and shades of coloring is critical for safety. |

Must be able to detect odors or smells. Incumbent will be working in areas where detection of odors indicating gas leaks or shorts in electrical wiring is critical for safety. |

Must be able to speak and read fluent English. Printed instructions and safety precautions are in English. |

Must be able to work at elevated levels; e.g., on a roof, ladder, man lift and scaffolding. This position requires frequent work at an elevated level. |
