The Position
Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers including preparing legal documents and correspondence; calendaring; maintaining records; and providing assistance on routine problems and inquiries which are not of a legal nature.
Legal Secretaries perform specialized secretarial duties for attorneys, administrative law judges, and/or hearings/appeals officers, including preparing legal documents, correspondence, calendaring, maintaining records and providing assistance on routine inquiries which are not of a legal nature. This bilingual (English/Spanish) position, under general supervision, provides direct support to attorneys in the Las Vegas office and back-up support to additional attorneys as needed. This position will also act as a translator (English/Spanish) for clients as required as well as translation of documents received in the office. A thorough knowledge of English/Spanish languages to include speaking, reading and writing both languages is required. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of clerical experience, two of which were performing progressively responsible legal secretarial work in a training capacity; OR one year of experience as a Legal Secretary I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    An Associate of Science degree with a legal secretarial emphasis is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.
    Completion of a legal secretarial diploma program from an accredited business college is equivalent to one year of legal secretarial trainee experience.
Skills Required
    Fluent in Spanish and English.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
LEGAL SECRETARY II (02.153) Written Exam
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
