The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for Psychiatric Nurse II's to actively participate on a multidisciplinary team providing nursing care for children at the DESERT WILLOW TREATMENT CENTER (DWTC) located in Las Vegas, NV. DWTC is a 58-bed psychiatric hospital accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations that provides mental health treatment for children age 6 to 17. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. Dynamic work responsibilities include: Planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care delivered to adolescent clients; Identifying client health care needs and make comprehensive clinical evaluations; Providing input and recommendations regarding nursing care and services; Initiate and carry out therapeutic, recreational, educational, social, and physical care activities; Administer medications as prescribed by physicians and monitor patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reactions; Document client observations and the effectiveness of planned program activities. Will ensure DWTC maintains a safe, healthy and therapeutic environment for our clients, and nursing care objectives are met in accordance with the nursing association professional standards of practice and consistent with DWTC policy.
DESERT WILLOW TREATMENT CENTER (DWTC) operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day with three shifts. Due to this there are a variety of available full-time work schedules. The State of Nevada and DCFS offer an excellent benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance, participation in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), accrual of 15 days of annual and 15 days of sick leave, 11 paid holidays and no city, county, state or social security tax! DCFS also encourages education by providing on-going trainings and paid release time for staff to obtain CEU's. Some positions may also be eligible for an additional 5% Shift Differential pay. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    A Bachelor's degree in nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in nursing and one year of experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
