The Position
Theater Technicians perform skilled technical work including the setup and operation of sound and lighting systems and other stage devices, construction of stage scenery and props, and maintenance of equipment.
--Great Basin College (GBC) is recruiting for a Theater Technician 2 for the Buildings and Grounds department. The incumbent will oversee and run the technical set-up, operation, and maintenance of scheduled theatrical and stage events; attend all theatrical performances; maintain contact with faculty, staff, students, and members of the community to coordinate set-ups and adjust schedule; purchase technical equipment for the theater; store and secure expensive equipment; and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
--The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this position requires flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed. This is subject to change based on organizational needs. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of skilled experience in the setup and operation of lighting and sound equipment and set construction; OR two years of experience as a Theater Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
    Education above the high school level in technical theater or closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 30 semester credits being equal to six months of experience up to a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
    This position requires working occasional evenings and weekends.
    This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    This position requires working in Elko, NV.
    This position requires lifting up to 75 lbs occasionally and climbing on a ladder up to 35 feet to reach ceiling locations.
