The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position is with Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (NNAMHS) and will be working with the Forensic Mental Health Team (FMHT). Duties to include: monitoring of clients from initial assessment to discharge; demonstrates competency in caring for seriously mentally ill clients in outpatient settings. Monitors and administers medications and injections as well as monitoring clients for apparent side effects and/or allergic reactions; evaluates clients for emergency appointments and/or medications. Provides nursing and direct client support as needed including developing treatment plans, modifying service plans, crisis intervention, arranging services, lab orders, referrals, provides transportation and other duties pertinent to role. Attends to assigned clients by assisting them with accessing housing, finances and other pertinent resources; Assists other Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) members in enhancing medical care services to all FACT clients; Informs clients of role of medication in treatment. Consistently addresses identified rehabilitation goals and Assists other FACT members with treatment and rehabilitation goals and participate in multi-disciplinary treatment teams. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
