The Position
Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.
The Office of Traffic Safety seeks a team player to serve a critical role as Accounting Assistant 3 in the agency supporting the daily activities of the agency. The Office of Traffic Safety is small agency with big impact, supporting the statewide and local programs designed to improve safety and awareness and meet Nevada's goal of Zero Fatalities on our roads. The Accounting Assistant 3 will oversee fiscal processing for grant claims, vendor invoices, travel requests and will assist with the development of work programs and budget items, as well as providing back up support to operations and program staff. The Accounting Assistant 3 will analyze agency operations and, working with agency management and fiscal staff, develop and implement improvements to work flow, recordkeeping requirements, and the electronic grant management system. This position will be exposed not only to state fiscal processes but will gain experience and knowledge of Federal grant management requirements and reporting systems in an environment of dedicated and supportive traffic safety professionals. This position provides opportunities for professional development and training for the individual who is committed to their career and to making a difference in their daily activities. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, manipulate and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
    Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
The Examination
If there are five or fewer qualified applicants, the exam will consist of an application evaluation. (This statement does not apply for Until Recruitment Needs are Satisfied (URS) announcements).
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
