Tax Examiners are responsible for licensing/registration, collecting taxes and fees, and assisting taxpayers to ensure compliance with the applicable tax and registration statutes.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Tax Examiner is responsible for assisting fuel supplies, dealers, exporters and transporters with filing supplier tax returns by applying applicable Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) and Nevada Administrative Code (NAC). This position assists fuel suppliers with licensing/annual renewal application requirements. This position is responsible for correctly collecting and distributing fuel tax revenues to state agencies, counties and incorporated cities. This position is responsible for initially calculating adequate security requirements and ensuring their accounts maintain the necessary security requirements to secure their accounts. This position reviews and approves documents submitted for fuel usage refunds and exemptions; verifying for accuracy, calculating and processing fuel supplier tax returns and tax refunds; the ability to correctly calculate and collect penalties, interest, fines and sanctions associated with delinquent payments and delinquent filing requirements. The Tax Examiner establishes and maintains strong working relationships with their supplier representatives, out of state counterparts and representatives of state agencies and local municipalities, as well as other agency staff members. The Tax Examiner must possess good oral and written communication skills and will use these skills to make oral presentations and prepare written documents and reports as necessary. Incumbent must possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in bookkeeping, collections, or the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and/or legal requirements equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III or Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR Graduation from High School or equivalent education and three years of experience as stated above; OR one year of experience as a Tax Examiner I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
