JOB INFORMATION

Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.

The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is recruiting for a vacancy in the New Employees of Nevada (NEON) program located at the Reno District Office. The incumbent will work with agency customers to elicit information regarding education, training, work experience, and occupational goals or interests; advise job seekers of self-assessment tests and career options; suggest training and other resources; edit and proof resumes; identify obstacles to employment; pre-screen and coordinate job search and follow-up activities with community-based services, partner services, state agencies, or federal programs; and coach job seeking customers regarding the application process, job interviews, and other job search skills. The incumbent will also contact and maintain on-going relationships with local businesses for job referral; conduct group orientation and training sessions regarding program requirements or available services; and answer inquiries from the public and/or employers regarding program services.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: providing administrative/program support to professional staff and management; performing secretarial duties in support of a manager; coordinating communications between the manager, staff and program clientele; supervision of subordinate staff; researching information from internal and external sources; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
The Examination
CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
