The Position
Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Monitors Consumer from initial assessment through discharge. Demonstrates a competency in caring for seriously mentally ill consumers in an outpatient setting by using nursing skills and recording the information obtained as well as communicating any abnormal or unusual results to the physician and/or other staff involved in client treatment. Completes physical assessments and vital signs, pain assessments, Suicide Risk assessment and other assessments as required by Division, NNAMHS. and WCMHS policy and procedure. Monitors medications for individual consumers and assesses for inappropriate side effects including monitoring for Tardive Dyskinesia. Administers injections as ordered, qualifying the consumer using two identifiers. Uses standard precautions and hand hygiene as defined In NNAMHS policies. Notifies physician of abnormal laboratory results documenting follow-up recommendations. Reports Adverse Drug Reactions as required per NNAMHS policies. Demonstrates ability to inform consumer of role of medication in treatment. Answers consumer questions and determines if client is receiving concomitant treatment from another agency
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience.
