Disease Control Specialists perform a variety of epidemiological investigations and surveillance activities related to the identification, control and reporting of communicable, infectious and chronic diseases.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
This position serves as a Disease Control Specialist II for Rural Community Health Services (RCHS) within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health. This position is located in Carson City, but works closely with staff in the OPHIE satellite office in Las Vegas, RCHS staff throughout the state, and medical providers throughout rural Nevada. The incumbent will perform specialized duties related to the control of various communicable and chronic diseases including tuberculosis, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, vaccine-preventable diseases, general communicable diseases, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and others. The incumbent must be able to operate computer equipment, work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams, and project manage while working on several projects simultaneously.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, health science, biology, chemistry, physiology, medical technology, psychology, sociology or related field and one year of experience in conducting epidemiological investigations and surveillance activities or related experience such as field work in conducting case interviews, tracking health data, working in an infection control setting and providing health education on disease control in an organization which provided public health services; OR two years of experience as a Disease Control Specialist I in Nevada State service which included field work as stated above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. |
