The Position
Social Services Program Specialists perform administrative and professional work in conjunction with the administration of statewide public assistance, medical assistance, or social services programs.
Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. APPLICANTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
This position is located in Carson City, NV. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, management and evaluation of the medical coverage policies and procedures for School Based Child Health Services, (viz, Part B of IDEA), Indian Health Programs, Therapies (viz, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy), and the supervision of the Applied Behavioral Analysis (autism) program. The incumbent will be required to research/ analyze federal/ state public laws/ regulations and other best practices. The position will have involvement with services for children that requires a level of knowledge in early childhood development, Individual Education Plans that will lend to the relationships with providers, policy development and oversight of critical services for School Based Health and Applied Behavior Analysis. The incumbent will be be required to manage multiple tasks in an independent manner.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a field of study pertinent to the program assignment and two years of professional social services, medical assistance programs services, or healthcare services experience which included serving as a consultant to professional/supervisory program personnel; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex documents such as federal regulations, technical journals, and legislative studies; writing program policies, procedures, and reports; and conducting research and preparing recommendations for management; OR one year of experience as a Social Services Program Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    This position requires 25% travel statewide.
    A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Additional Position Criteria
    Professional experience and/or concentration of studies in researching and developing health policy around Early Childhood, Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), along with experience managing complex projects including analysis and presentation.
