The Position
Positions in this series supervise professional engineering associates, technical engineering staff, and/or engineering students; direct activities of assigned staff, organize personnel, equipment and materials, and delegate assignments; evaluate the performance of employees according to established policies and work performance standards; ensure accurate and timely completion of work assignments; and provide guidance and training.
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
This position is located in Las Vegas. Incumbent is responsible for managing the District 1 Permits Division. This includes overseeing the processing of permits and the staff members who complete these tasks. It also includes overseeing permits inspection and ensuring that permit work is completed in conformance with Department policy and applicable standards. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field and four years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR certified as an Engineering Intern and four years of professional engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; OR two years of experience comparable to the Staff II, Associate Engineer or Supervisor II, Associate Engineer; OR four years of professional engineering experience with two years of experience comparable to the Supervisor I, Associate Engineer.

The Examination
Supervisor III, AE - Construction Division
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your construction experience in the following areas: a) Supervision of survey, to include calculating and staking horizontal and vertical alignments of highways; b) supervision of inspecting production and placement of asphalt or concrete paving, aggregate base, structural concrete and earthwork for highways and bridges; c) supervision of operating a construction field laboratory and using basic quality control methods for sampling and testing of engineering materials; d) supervision of construction office procedures to include recording file data for documentation of contract progress reports, specification compliance and correspondence to include biweekly contractor progress payment process; and e) critical path scheduling or other comparable construction project management scheduling.
2) Describe your experience working with a contractor in the following areas: a) Interpreting compliance with contract documents; b) Coordinating inspection/testing personnel to accommodate contractor's operations; c) Traffic control requirements; and d) Partnering or dispute resolution.
3) Describe your experience in the interpretation of engineering plans, specifications and technical manuals.
4) Describe your experience in the application or interpretation of state and federal statutes and regulations in any of the following areas: a) Stormwater pollution prevention; b) Hazardous materials, hazardous waste; and c) Right of Way
