Agricultural Inspectors perform sampling and inspection of agricultural products at shipping point inspection facilities, and participate in pest control and noxious weed eradication; check and grade condition of fruits and vegetables, and assist plant pathologists and entomologists in the preparation of samples for analysis.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

This seasonal position works within the Department of Agriculture's, Division of Plant Industry, Entomology Section, located and based in Sparks, NV. The incumbent will receive training in the performance of field inspections and surveys for entomology under the direct supervision of the Agricultural Inspector IV. The selected candidate will be required to travel to agricultural production and rangeland areas, across the state of Nevada. Main duties include placing and collecting traps, preparing and labeling specimens, and collecting and recording of data electronically using handheld computers and phones. This position may be assigned to assist in other related Plant Industry disease and field surveys as required. This position requires the incumbent to work a 10 hour shift, 4 days per week.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
Special Requirements
Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
This position has a 50% travel requirement.
Flexible and/or rotating shifts are required.
