The Position
Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within a State Youth Training Center; maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths' program activities; and provide individual guidance pursuant to State or federal laws and regulations.
The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) has several positions and shifts available for Group Supervisor 2's at the Caliente Youth Center (CYC), a 140-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth age 12 to 18. Caliente is home to some of the most beautiful country in Nevada! This includes the magnificent Rainbow Canyon and the oasis-like setting of Kershaw-Ryan State Park just 2 miles south of the city center. Within 50 miles of the town are four other Nevada state parks: Beaver Dam, Cathedral Gorge, Spring Valley, and Echo Canyon. Caliente is a short distance, approximately 2 hours north, from the bright lights of Las Vegas, NV. CYC's goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values and ways of thinking for youth. Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, training, treatment, care and custody of youth at CYC. This includes: supervise the activities of youth within assigned unit; directly observe work habits, social behavior, and attitude to ensure conduct meets established rules and regulations of the facility; provide assistance and direction to youth in the performance of assignments, acceptable behavior, proper dress and personal hygiene; participate as a member of a treatment team to implement a treatment plan; document progress and concerns in the youths' development; provide a safe and secure environment for the youth. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal and State laws governing juvenile facilities and DCFS and CYC policies. Group Supervisor 2 possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform full range of duties outlined in the series concept independently with little or no additional training.
These are full time positions that include a variable work agreement that may be scheduled to work hours and days different than 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday such as swing shift and weekends, with overtime after 40 hours per week. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education; two years of general work or volunteer experience which included working with the public or clients and coordinating or supervising work, people, or activities; and one year of experience working with youth in a custodial, therapeutic, educational or correctional setting; OR one year as a Group Supervisor I in Nevada State service; OR a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, criminal justice, education or related field and one year of general work or volunteer experience which included working with the public or clients and coordinating or supervising work, people, or activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
    A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    Per NAC 284.317, applicants must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
